Get a complimentary return Air New Zealand domestic flight each year
American Express Platinum Edge Cardholders receive a complimentary Air New Zealand direct domestic flight (seat plus bag) each membership year. You can book it (via Amex) for a return, direct flight anywhere within Air New Zealand’s domestic network.
The complimentary Air New Zealand flight benefit is yours to use each membership year after you’ve paid the annual card fee.
You can book this flight for yourself or someone else, from as little as 2 weeks before you fly and up to 10 months in advance. When you’re ready to book, you simply need to call the phone number found on the back of your card.
Using this generous card benefit each year will help you to get maximum value from the $149 annual card fee.
Earn up to 3 Membership Rewards points per $1 spent
Most of us outlay a significant amount of money each month on groceries and petrol, but very few credit cards allow us to maximise points earned on our day to day spend. This is where the American Express Platinum Edge Card really shines.
You’ll enjoy one of the best earn rates of any New Zealand credit card on everyday spend – including an unbeatable 3 points per $1 at major supermarkets. Earn points on each and every dollar you spend on your card, with rates as follows:
- 3 Membership Rewards points per $1 spend at major supermarkets
- 2 Membership Rewards points per $1 spend at major petrol stations, and
- 1 Membership Rewards point per $1 spend on other purchases.
Retailers classified as major supermarkets include Countdown, Farro Fresh, FreshChoice, New World, Nosh, PAK’nSAVE and SuperValue. Major petrol stations include BP, Caltex, GAS, Gull, Mobil, Shell and Z.
And like all American Express New Zealand consumer credit cards, there’s no spending cap, ever, so there is no limit to how many points you can earn each month or year.
Redeem points in the Amex Membership Rewards programme
American Express Membership Rewards is the go-to loyalty scheme of choice for many savvy consumers. Their main reason? Flexibility! Rather than being locked into one frequent flyer programme, this versatile scheme allows you to earn points now and decide what to do with them at a later date.
The Amex Platinum Edge allows you to transfer points to seven leading airline frequent flyer programs:
- Air New Zealand Airpoints
- Qantas Frequent Flyer
- Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer
- Emirates Skywards
- Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
- Cathay Pacific Asia Miles
- Malaysia Airlines Enrich.
You can also use your points to redeem for spend at Hello World Travel, Webjet or Amex Travel, or for gift cards. And unlike most loyalty programs, as long as your account is in good standing, your American Express Membership Rewards points will never expire.
Access complimentary domestic and international travel insurance
When you pay for a return flight with your card, you’ll enjoy comprehensive domestic and international travel insurance cover for you, your partner and dependent children aged 22 years or younger. While international travel is off the cards for now, you could still find value from this benefit when travelling within New Zealand. You’ll get access to:
- travel inconvenience cover for flight delays, missed connections and luggage delays
- overseas medical emergency expenses and repatriation cover
- travel cancellation cover
- baggage cover
- personal liability cover
Before taking out any insurance product, it’s important to familiarise yourself with the fine print to ensure it meets your needs. You can access the American Express Platinum Edge card insurance terms and conditions here.
