American Express and BNZ are making it easier for New Zealand small and medium-sized businesses to accept American Express cards from New Zealand and overseas.
Under the new partnership, businesses who use BNZ merchant services can now take American Express payments at the same standard rates as other major credit card providers.
American Express acceptance is on the rise
The new BNZ partnership has resulted in thousands of additional businesses being added to the American Express merchant network across the country.
In fact, American Express says that over 19,000 businesses have started accepting American Express across New Zealand since the start of 2019.
These new merchants join the tens of thousands of businesses across New Zealand that already accept American Express – from local shops and restaurants to supermarkets, petrol stations and airlines.
Popular retailers who accept American Express include:
• Supermarkets: Countdown, New World, Pak’n’Save
• Petrol stations: BP, Mobil
• Major retailers: Farmers, The Warehouse, Harvey Norman, Kmart
• Fashion: Country Road, David Jones, Westfield, Zara
• Travel: Air New Zealand, Flight Centre, Expedia
• Services: Uber, Vodafone, Wilsons Parking
American Express Shop Small New Zealand
The new BNZ partnership coincided with American Express Shop Small, a campaign that was run in late 2020 to drive more spending into New Zealand small businesses. The 2020 Shop Small promotion has now closed.
