Marriott International is set to commence construction of a Moxy hotel in Auckland.
Announced on Friday 20th November, a new Moxy Hotel will commence construction in January 2021 with a forecast opening of 2023. The new hotel will be owned by Tianyou Group (Tumyu Group).
This Moxy Hotel announcement adds to the Marriott portfolio, with the existing Four Points by Sheraton Auckland.
Moxy will appeal to the slightly more price-conscious traveller with a sense of funky urban style.
Located in the “Learning Quarter” of central Auckland, the Moxy Hotel will be central to the University of Auckland, Domain, Art Gallery and Hospital, putting it squarely in the sights for both tourists, corporate visitors and academics alike.
In recent times, Marriott international has embarked on a number of Moxy Hotel builds in Perth, Melbourne and closer to home, Queenstown; making it the fastest-growing Marriott brand in Oceania. The entire portfolio features 71 hotels, up from just a few dozen three years ago. The brand is also spread across Europe, Asia Pacific and North America.
Moxy pitches itself as a ‘playful’ brand, delivering affordability to hotel stays. With 185 rooms, operating with space maximising features, guests will be able to adapt rooms to their particular needs. A fitness centre, meeting rooms come standard and a communal table is located the lobby for connectivity.
Entering the hotel, guests will walk through a fully glazed atrium and a central core will create a sense of welcome with the hotel’s communal spaces, including the Moxy Kitchen and bar, where both visitors and guests can dine and socialise.
Further away from the street, an inner courtyard will provide some peace and quiet from the street noise of inner Auckland.
