After the respective Governments of New Calendonia and French Polynesia imposed new restrictions, Air New Zealand has decided to halt flights to Tahiti and Noumea until June 30th 2020.
The last Auckland to Noumea service is today and the last Auckland to Tahiti service flies Monday. Even if you managed to get on the Tahiti service, you would be denied entry after the French Government imposed a ban on non-residents.
With the COVID-19 yet to impact the Pacific Island to the same levels as Europe and elsewhere, the islands are ideally placed to isolate themselves but remain heavily reliant on air travel for the tourism dollar. These harsh but necessary measures are bound to hurt their economies severely.
