In a great development for travellers, Air New Zealand has announced that passengers on it’s Wi-Fi enabled aircraft will continue to be able to access free Internet indefinitely on international flights.
Essentially passengers have had access to free Internet for the last 3 months with the November announcement that it was trialling free Internet from December to February 2019 inclusive. Prices for access have ranged from $30-$40 NZD long-haul and $9/hour.
Star Alliance member, Air New Zealand has WiFi fitted to its Boeing 777 aircraft already plying international routes. However, the 787 Dreamliner fleet is not yet enabled, meaning that it’s still possible to miss out on the Internet to Australia for instance.
Recent aircraft additions to the fleet, such as the A321neo, have come fitted with the Wi-Fi capability from the factory.
Download speeds are good and the service is quite usable, with 1-5Mbps down and comparatively the same uploading.
