Air New Zealand is getting into the spirit of Christmas early with free wifi across its fleet until March 2019!
From 1 December 2018 to 28 February 2019, wifi on all domestic and international enabled planes will be free. At present this includes the newly refurbished 777-300s, the 777-200s (17 x 777’s in total) and those in the fleet as wifi is progressively rolled out in 2018/19.
New Airbus A320 and A321 Neo aircraft due to arrive will be pre-equipped with wifi. However, it’s reasonable to say that travellers on these planes will miss the free wifi period by the time they enter service.
Air New Zealand claims a saving of $30 – $40 for a Full Flight Pass per person.
Freely available wifi is bound to place a strain on the satellite wifi service provided by Inmarsat. The bandwidth is shared evenly across all passengers and Air New Zealand blocks offensive content. Data-heavy services such as large downloads, video and audio streaming, VOIP, and cloud services are also blocked.
